The way to lose weight is the healthy way is slowly and gradually as the body does not like any sudden changes and rapid weight loss can affect the metabolism causing it to slow down. Aim for a rate of weight loss of around 1-2 pounds each week as a rate of healthy weight loss that can be sustained for the long term. There is no need to use expensive weight loss products or diet aids just a simple weight loss program of healthy eating and exercise will be enough to make sure you lose weight.
The two key components of any successful weight loss program are diet and exercise. To lose weight you need to make the body use up its stores of fat and the way to do this is by reducing calorie intake or by increasing physical activity or ideally doing both together.
Exercising helps to burn excess calories and fat no matter what type of exercise you do. Any increase in physical activity will help you get in shape and it needn’t involve spending hours in the gym. Simply walking for 20 minutes extra each or joining a dance class will help you to get fitter and thinner.
There are lots of easy ways to reduce your daily calorie intake that don’t involve living on a diet of lettuce for months on end. Replace fizzy drinks with water as an easy way of saving calories, switch to skimmed milk instead of whole and use a sweetener instead of sugar. Eating slightly smaller portion sizes will help you to save calories as will cutting down on alcohol as much as possible.
When you are starting your diet it is important to introduce changes gradually and also to have realistic expectations. Making a number of small changes to your diet and lifestyle can have long term benefits eg eating one extra biscuit each day can lead to a 5 pound weight gain over the course of a year so if you eat 1 less biscuit each day you should lose 5 pounds. |
